Leiomyoma and erythrocytosis: a tumor producing a factor which increases erythropoietin production. Report of case.

چکیده
E RYTHROCYTOSIS has been associated with various types of tumors.1 In some of these cases, the tumor was found to contain a substance which was similar to erythropoietin both immunochemically and in biologic activity. We shall here describe what we believe to be the first reported case of a patient with a leiomyoma of the esophagus and erythrocytosis. Experiments to determine the etiology of the erythrocytosis suggested that the tumor contained a substance that was not erythropoietin but had the ability to stimulate the production of erythropoietin by the kidneys.

A Case of Myomatous Erythrocytosis Syndrome Associated with a Large Uterine Leiomyoma
Several etiologies have been proposed for erythrocytosis associated with uterine leiomyoma. We report a case of erythrocytosis associated with a large uterine leiomyoma, in which specific immunostaining for erythropoietin was positive. A 55-year-old woman, gravida 0, para 0, was referred to our hospital for treatment for a large uterine myoma and erythrocytosis. She had no vaginal bleeding afte...
متن کاملParaneoplastic Erythrocytosis of Colon Cancer, with Serum Erythropoietin within the Normal Reference Range
BACKGROUND Paraneoplastic erythrocytosis can be brought on by ectopic erythropoietin production usually in kidney, brain, and liver tumor with increase of serum erythropoietin level. We report here a paraneoplastic erythrocytosis of colon cancer with serum erythropoietin within the normal reference, which required an immunohistologic test for erythropoietin-antibody to be diagnosed. CASE REPO...

cytokines or tumor-related proteins) which circulate in the bloodstream, affecting the function of other tissues at a site distant from the tumor origin. The prevalence of HCC-related paraneoplastic erythrocytosis ranges from 1% to 3%.[1,2] The underlying pathophysiology of HCCrelated paraneoplastic erythrocytosis is multifactorial. Firstly, local hypoxia from focal hepatic tumor necrosis leads...
